Alternative Protein and Food Systems Transformation

From March 2023 to 2025 I was a Research Officer for Lisa Baker MLA Maylands. In that time I researched and wrote a report for her on Food System Transformation and the important role of governments as supporters and investors in the development of alternative proteins. I developed a framework of recommendations for the WA government that were included in the report.

During those 2 years I had the great good fortune to connect with Megan Redmond in Food Frontier. Her insights and experience were always so generously shared. Her feedback on my report helped me hone in and restructure critical elements.

Meg is now Director of Government and Strategic Engagement at FF, and they just launched a major report Unlocking Australia’s potential: The case for a national plant protein ingredient industry. Meg researched and wrote this report.

It’s a brilliant report that highlights the opportunities and challenges for the Australian plant protein ingredient industry if it wants to be a player in the global market. The report is evidence based and also reflects data and information from key industry stakeholders.

Meg hired me to help gather statistics, synthesise data and write sections that she could use as she structured and wrote this report. It was a delight and honour to work with Meg. She has a very open and strategic approach to the topic. She’s also able to take a mountain of data on a complex topic and wrangle it into a readable and useable report. Her writing ability is amazing and the structured recommendations and actions provide a very clear pathway forward if government and other stakeholder are willing.

Meg very kindly acknowledged me in the report “Deep gratitude also goes to Liz Lennon of Focused Solutions for her research and considered support during report development.”

I’d work with Meg and Food Frontier again and again. They also run the best industry conferences. The next one is in Sydney later this year.

You can access a copy of the full report and a 2 page summary [go on – read the whole report!] on the Food Frontier website

Many congratulations again to Meg and Food Frontier for creating this report.

And I’m available for research and writing contracts. Drop me a line and we can talk.
